Video Keeps Tarmac Off the Road
Concrete, sand, asphalt and crushed rock - the Tarmac Group's core business materials may sound low-tech. But the company has a futuristic outlook on the construction materials industry.
Architects and engineers look to Tarmac for expertise in achieving structural and esthetic effects that, until recently, they could only dream of. The high-strength concrete that Tarmac formulated for the stunning new Gateshead Millennium Bridge in the UK comes to mind. The company's approach to business administration is increasingly high-tech, too. Tarmac managers now use TANDBERG visual communications to help coordinate construction and quarrying activities across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Geographically speaking, Tarmac is widely dispersed. In the UK alone, it employs more than 7,500 people and operates numerous sales and administrative offices as well as quarries. Until Tarmac began to invest in videoconferencing the sales team in particular had been wasting days at a time traveling by car to meetings.
